Like or hate it, cranberry sauce has successfully become synonymous with Thanksgiving, just like the Macy’s parade. But, as Adweek recently pointed out, its polarization on the Thanksgiving menu is not the only interesting thing about it.

Before you pour the gelatinous side dishes this year, take a look at the cans. Is the thicker round edge at the bottom or bottom?

The label is likely to be displayed upside down.

Confused? So are we. Fortunately, a spokesperson for Ocean Spray explained to CNN Business the scientific principles behind these seemingly upside-down jars.

The cans are “filled and labelled, with rounded edges at the top and sharp can-shaped edges at the bottom to keep the jelly intact.” This creates a bubble vacuum on one side of the circle (top), so customers can “light with a knife Sweeping the edge of the jar to break the vacuum, the logs can easily slip out."

Watch: My resident canned cranberry sauce lover called Ina Garten's pre-made version "breathtaking"

So, the cans are not upside down at all, they are just different in design to make it easier to open and serve the cranberry sauce.
